Paper Piecing hexagons

I've been paper piecing these hexagons for some time now. Its a great take along project. l managed to do around 100 this past weekend when we took a big drive in the country.

Looking at this collection of hexagons, l decided its time to start putting them together. And that's where l am undecided. Do l make the traditional flowers, or just put them together randomly? One thing l do know for sure, l am only going to use Jo Morton fabrics. l have quite a collection, that gets added to every time Jo puts out a new range, and l would like this to be tribute to a great fabric and quilt designer who l am lucky enough to call a friend.

So what's your opinion? Flowers, or random? l would really love to hear!!!
Thanks for visiting.
Linda.

  1. Based on the picture provided, I vote random. Perhaps if I saw more flowers put together, I might vote for them. That helps, right!

  3. Oh those are so pretty! I love the colors. Either way (Ramdom or flower) they will look great. My vote is ramdom.

  4. I think definately random. A friend of mine made a huge quilt out of randomly placed hexagons and it looks fantastic!

  5. You could do both Linda - random with strategically placed flowers in contrasting fabric to provide a little wow factor! Go with your own instincts, you have a good eye for colour and design.

  6. Check out this star that Bonnie Hunter is doing. I really love these kinds of designs with the English paper piecing. I have wanted to do one of these for so long (to have a great take-along project). Kudos to you for getting one going!

  7. I must say, those hexagons could look good any way but I like the idea of random. My favourite is the Martha Washington.

  8. I think random
would love to see all the ones you have so far laid out maybe on a sheet of white fabric so the colors pop
hard to see on the dark floors
since her colors tend to be darker maybe adding more of her cheddars thru out or the shirtings to keep the quilt lighter.
    what a wonderful idea

  9. Oh random seems to be the way to go. With an abundance of different fabrics, it will be a treat to the eyes *s*

  10. Hi Linda,
I love all your little hexagons. What a fun way to use Jo's beautiful fabrics. My vote is for random but I'm sure you can't go wrong either way. I'll look forward to seeing what you end up doing with them. Thanks for visiting my blog!

  11. Hi Linda, I am doing the grandma's flower garden . I was going to do random but my sister is working on EPP also, so we decided to do the flower. hAve almost the size of a small wall hanging. Also was working on yo-yo's. Have put together the size of a double spread so far. Couldn't sew for awhile as we were building our log home, so I started hand work. Love it. Good luck. 12. Hi Linda, I am from Auckland New Zealand, I have just sent my Farmers Wife quilt of to the quilters, It was made up of all Jo Morton and early civil war fabrics, now what to do with the left overs. I have just started the Pie and Tarts quilt with the remaining Jo Morton and also cutting out 16mm hexagons. I find english piecing very relaxing. Love your site.
